In a world where everyone is a whatsapp text away, do we still need email? Infact, do people still even use email in the age of social media marketing?
Well, people do. In fact, what if I were to tell you that there are 4.48 billion email users in the world worldwide, as of 2025. And this number is expected to rise to 4.73 billion by 2026!
Staggering, right? But what does this tell you? Well, there are two key takeaways in my opinion.
First, email marketing remains a popular communication channel amongst users worldwide. Second, that this number is expected to rise. So, email usage is a rising trend - especially amongst businesses.
As a matter of fact, market research by B2B marketers states that 81% of businesses use email as part of their digital marketing strategy.
But here’s the catch.
Email marketing in 2025 has evolved out of the idea of firing off a bunch of emails and hoping for the best.
Instead it has become more targeted, more personalized, and more customer centric - with the overarching philosophy of delivering emails that are tailored to customer needs, interests and behaviors.
And what’s driving this evolution? The answer: AI.

Artificial intelligence has completely transformed email marketing in ways we couldn’t have imagined a few years ago.
With its ability to automate and process large quantities of data, AI has introduced new layers into email marketing, including but not limited to, hyper-personalization, omnichannel engagement, email scheduling and predictive analytics.
Each of these layers, in my opinion, require a more in-depth overview and analysis - which we will do in this blog.
But first, let’s get a more holistic view of why email marketing still holds value in 2025.

Direct Communication with Your Customers
Email is one of the few marketing channels where you can speak directly to your audience without the distracting clutter of a social media feed or intrusiveness of website popups - something other marketing channels or platforms simply can’t replicate.
Tailored Content that aligns with Customer Preferences
With segmentation and data analytics, businesses can tailor emails to specific customer preferences, leading to higher engagement rates.
Consistent and Considerable Return on Investment (ROI)
One of the strongest merits of email marketing, and perhaps the reason it’s not going anywhere anytime soon, is its ability to deliver consistent returns on investments year on year.

Adaptability and Scalability irrespective of Business Size
Whether you’re running a small business or you’re planning email campaigns for a multinational company, email marketing can scale and adapt to your needs.
Cost-Effectiveness and Sustainability
In our digital age, where inbound marketing expenses can quickly spiral out of control, email marketing stands out as a specially attractive option for businesses looking to budget their expenses better.
Accessibility Across Multiple Devices
With mobile optimization, emails are accessible on both desktop and mobile devices, reaching users no matter where they are.
Fosters an element of Trust
Subscribers willingly opt into receiving emails, fostering a relationship of trust that can lead to long-term customer loyalty
These are the reasons why email marketing continues to be a dominating communication channel for Fortune 500 companies. You just can’t go wrong with it.
Especially with its recent upgrade - which has completely transformed the benefits it offers. I’m talking about the incorporation of AI into email marketing.
Let’s understand this evolution in more detail.
When you hear the word “Automation”, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? Robots replacing humans?
That sounds grim, but really that’s not the case. Automation in email marketing isn’t robots replacing humans - but tools minimizing manual human labor and effort, and streamlining monotonous tasks.
In simpler words, Automation in email marketing is where you run heavy lifting tasks on auto-pilot.
So how can Automation help your email marketing efforts?
We all know that it's about five times cheaper to retain a customer, than acquire a new one.
With automation, you can keep your customers engaged throughout their journey with your brand. This engagement not only increases customer loyalty but also positively impacts your bottom line.

Email automation can also give more cross-selling opportunities to your business.
Say, a customer purchases a product from you - am automated trigger can then send a personalized email suggesting similar products to the consumer, , effectively cross-selling to increase the likelihood of a conversion.
Customer feedback is the driving force of improvement and optimization. By constantly listening to and incorporating what your customers are suggesting, you can address issues before they spiral out of control.
Here, email automation - more specifically automated product review and customer experience emails - can help businesses to understand customer perceptions and areas where they can improve.

So you see, email automation can do wonders for your email marketing efforts.
But what if that automation gets levelled up with Artificial Intelligence!
As someone who’s been in the email marketing game for a while, I’ve seen trends come and go.
With all the hype surrounding Artificial Intelligence (AI) - it’s easy to get lost in the noise. But let me tell you this, AI is way more than just a buzzword. It has reshaped industries in ways that are nothing short of remarkable.
The most glaring of these revolutions has been in the field of email marketing - where AI has completely changed the script of how marketers approach email marketing, and what they can achieve with it.
AI has added another layer to email marketing by introducing the concept of hyper-personalization - which goes beyond just understanding a customer’s personal profile to having a detailed comprehension of their preferences and needs.

AI does this by sifting through mountains of customer data, analyzing behaviors, inclinations, and past interactions to understand your customers needs.
This could include things like their shopping habits, previous purchases, or even the times they open emails—and turns that into a highly personalized experience.
This results in emails that don’t feel generic or random, and makes your outreach much more likely to resonate with your potential customers and lead to action.

Spotify end-of-year "Wrapped" is a shining case study of this.
The more emails you send out, the higher the probability of converting potential customers to your business. However, crafting and typing out emails can feel like a tedious task.
This is where AI can step in, as your creative assistant.
From suggesting catchy subject lines, crafting engaging copies, and even optimizing the perfect time to send emails, AI can do it all for you.
What’s even better is the way AI analyzes data, suggesting improvements and optimizing content based on what works best for your business.

This not only saves time, but also enhances the possibility of customer engagement - amplifying the efficacy of your overall email marketing strategy.
One of the major challenges as marketers is to be able to pinpoint what the customer actually wants. To be able to identify their pain points and address them before they become too big of a sore.
Artificial Intelligence makes this job easier with AI-powered predictive analytics.
AI studies past behavior to predict future actions, helping you send the perfect message when your customer is most receptive.
For example, if someone frequently clicks on product links but hasn’t purchased, AI can suggest sending them a targeted offer at just the right moment to nudge them towards conversion.
This helps drive conversion rates, and is one of the many ways AI has revolutionized email marketing.
So, based on what we’ve discussed so far, my overarching verdict is this: If you want to transform your email marketing campaigns from basic to brilliant, and get that competitive edge over your competitors, AI powered email marketing is the way to go.
AI Adoption in Fortune 500 companies:

This sentiment is also reflected in Hubspot’s “State of Generative AI” report. The report states that,
95% of marketers who use generative AI for email creation rate it “effective”, with 54% rating it “very effective.”
85% of marketing AI users say it boosts content personalization.
Generative AI saves marketers 3+ hours on a single piece of content.
43% of marketers who use generative AI say that it’s most helpful for creating emails.
These findings, when taken in the backdrop of what we’ve discussed, highlight the importance of AI email marketing in today’s day and age.
Now you might be wondering - yes, AI email marketing has its benefits but where do I start? How do I incorporate this technology into my business?
Well, what you need is to invest in the right AI marketing platform. And I have just the suggestion for you.
